not just a sunsuit blog tour

I know I already reviewed the Paneled Sunsuit Pattern (see review here) by Designs by Call Ajaire, but I'm excited to be part of the blog tour so I can show you the new free long sleeve add-on!  Initially I didn't think I was going to like the style of the top since I'm not a big fan of princess style sleeves, but as soon as I put the top on Mae, I absolutely loved it!  It still may not be my favorite style, but it suits her perfectly :)  Plus these shorts (along with the pair I already made) are still both Mae's and my favorite shorts!

The construction of the sleeve is quite unusual, and I know I have never sewn anything quite like it, but the tutorial is very well written (just like Ajaire's other patterns) and it all works even if the pattern pieces seem oddly shaped at first ;)  And now that I've sewn one, I find myself wanting to sew another just because the construction is like a fun little puzzle, which the geek in me just loves!

I'm looking forward to Mae wearing this outfit through the winter.  I'll add tights to keep her legs from freezing, and probably some cute little boots, and call it good.  Plus, since the bodice and sleeves are fully lined, the top is already suitable for our cold weather.  I also made sure I made the shorts slightly big so Mae can still wear them next summer.  Although that may be wishful thinking on my part considering how fast she's growing :(

Changes made to the top:
  • Created a high low hem by shortening the front by 1" and lengthening the back by 3"
  • Added a ruffle to the botton edge
  • Added elastic to the sleeve hem
  • Used the bodice lining pieces for the front and back rather than the upper and lower bodices
Changes made to the shorts - see my pattern review post here

Materials:
Shorts - Grey polyester suiting from Joann's
Top - Cloud 9 Palos Verdes organic cotton voile from fabric.com

    1. Thanks Emi!! I was quite pleased with how this top came out, and I was glad I used my "good" fabric. I always wonder why I save fabric for the perfect project anyway ... I always end up liking the fabric even more once it is turned into something wearable!
