nell top: take two

I did mange to get some sewing time last night, so I whipped up another Nell top, this one with short sleeves.  I like this one even more than the first!  The fit is just about right, and although there are still a couple of minor things I want to change, I feel like it's exactly the look I was aiming for :)

Next I think I need to make the changes across all the sizes (18 months - 12) and then test out a bigger size on Gracie just to make sure it's graded properly.  Then comes the real fun - writing the instructions!  Honestly, I could sit and grade patterns all day long as long as I never need to do any actual writing.  I was one of those people who did great in math right up until Geometry when they made me prove my answers were correct.  For some reason "I don't know how I know it, I just do" was never the right answer :)  I find that trying to explain how to sew a pattern feels about the same.  I tend to skip steps because I know what comes next and I forget that other people may not.  But I guess that's what proofreaders and testers are for ... to catch anything I may miss, which I'm sure will be plenty :)

I just love this picture of the back of the top - all because of Mae's little pigtails!  I'm not really a fan of the two-year-old attitude (although it's even less cute in my 15-year-old son!) but I'm sure going to miss all the sweet, innocent and quirky moments of this particular two year old.  I somehow doubt that when she's 15 she will let me dress her up, do her hair and take pictures :)  And if she does, there will probably be a boy involved, and I certainly don't approve of that!

When I looked at this last picture I realized I really need to go dig out my middle son's baby pictures.  And I literally mean dig them out since they were pre-digital and are probably buried under piles and piles of miscellaneous pictures.  But anyway, I'm pretty sure if you ignore the pigtails, Mae and Thomas could be twins :)  Of course, most of my extended family can't even tell my boys apart, so it's possible that all my kids look a whole lot alike!

    1. Thanks! I will need testers eventually ... but at the moment I really need to finish a few other things (like finishing the half painted wall in the play room) so I can focus on this with no guilt ;)

    1. I look forward to seeing you knit version of the Izzy top! I hope you had more luck with the fit of the Izzy made from a knit since I know the woven version was a little small on your daughter :)

  7. So cute! That's funny about the look on your 15yr old, I say something similar to my 17 and 13yr old acting like my 17month old.
